Neighborhood Newsletter
Anyone who loves to use a computer and
wants to help establish close-knit
neighborhoods, might want to consider
starting a neighborhood newsletter business.
HBWM member Liz Elliott and her friend
Shelly Gallagher have done just that. These
two stay-at-home moms live in a neighborhood
of 250 people in Grand Island, Nebraska.
Both women decided to give up successful
careers in their fields; Liz in teaching and
Shelly in advertising, to stay home with
their young children. Their neighborhood
newsletter, the Brentwood Bulletin Board,
began one day over a cup of coffee while
their children were playing. Wanting to meet
more of their neighbors, as well as inform
and enhance community awareness and safety,
the idea was born.
They began their newsletter as a
four-page issue and soon expanded to a
six-page newsletter delivered quarterly with
no subscription charge to their neighbors.
What had began as a hobby turned into a
great home-based business opportunity. Soon
they branched out into other neighborhoods
and began publishing additional newsletters.
As more people gave positive feedback, they
realized they had a great product and
information to share with others who would
like to work from home.
The result is the Neighborhood Newsletter
Publishing Kit which contains information to
start your own neighborhood newsletter
business at home. The kit includes: story
generators, insuring profits, defining a
neighbor-hood, tips on using advertising,
price sheets, templates, formats, layout
ideas as well as copies of their newsletter.
They also discuss how they manage working
from home while maintaining the quality and
quantity of time they believe is so
important to devote to their families.
