Aims to Help Moms Work at Home
Home-Based Working Moms — Combining
Business with Children
AUSTIN,
TX -- Women who want to work and raise their
children will have a better chance of
succeeding with the creation of a national
organization called Home-Based Working Moms
(HBWM) based in Austin, Texas.
“Home-Based Working Moms aims to help
mothers (and fathers) find a way to make an
income without having to work outside the
home full time,” Lesley Spencer, HBWM
founder said. “I decided to start HBWM
because there are a lot of parents looking
for ways to stay at home. Our organization
gives these parents a head-start by
providing resources for finding a
work-at-home opportunity. In addition, HBWM
provides networking and on-going support for
parents who currently work at home.”
Members also receive a monthly newsletter
with home business ideas, time management
tips, marketing and publicity ideas, and
tips for working with children. Another
important benefit of HBWM is warning members
of scams. “There are a lot of businesses
out there playing on parents’ emotions to
work at home and are offering quick and easy
ways to make money that often turn out to be
scams,” Spencer warned.
Spencer believes families will not be the
only ones to benefit by having one parent at
home. “All of society stands to benefit
with a reduction in traffic and pollution,
and by cutting down on gasoline usage.”
HBWM also promotes contracting home-based
working moms for permanent and temporary
projects. HBWM offers free ads in their
newsletter and on their web site to any
company offering home-based employment.
“Hiring home-based working moms to do
projects such as word processing, writing,
computer programming, mass mailings,
clerical and any other jobs that can be done
at home makes a lot of sense. These
companies can save money by hiring these
home-based working moms, and at the same
time boost their company’s image as a
“family-friendly company.”
In addition, HBWM encourages companies to be
more family-friendly to current employees by
offering flex-time, part-time, job-share,
telecommuting and work-from-home
opportunities whenever possible. “Studies
have shown that employees are more
productive working at home and their
dedication and morale obviously increase.
It’s a win-win situation,” Spencer said.
HBWM membership dues are $44 per year which
includes a monthly newsletter, information
on how to cut your living expenses,
membership directory, as well as two free
ads in the newsletter. Other publications
available are: Over 200 Home Business Ideas
& Opportunities, Tips for Selecting a
Home Business, Basics of Starting a Home
Business and How to Promote Your Home
Business.
