General Questions
Does HBWM
provide jobs or home employment?
HBWM does not provide jobs. However, we do
ocassionally receive requests from companies
that are looking for contractors or people
to do part-time work from home. When we
receive those, we send them to our members
via email. Later, some of those are also
posted on our Mom's Work-at-Home Site. Click
here for those opportunities. Beware
that there are many scams
from fraudulent companies that say they are looking
for home employees but require you to pay
money to apply. Read
more on Tips for Avoiding Scams here.
Here are some other things to check out:
Do
you check out all ads that are on your site?
We do let our advertisers know that we
do not want any fraudulent ads on our site
and also have a strict Advertising
Policy our advertisers must agree
to. However, we do not feel that is
enough. We also encourage all visitors to
check out ALL home employment /
home business opportunities (on our site or
any site) thoroughly using our Tips
for Avoiding Scams. We do not have
the resources or funds to thoroughly
investigate each company. And, even if a
company checked out when they start
advertising, there's always the chance
that they will start scamming after that
which means a website would need to
monitor them daily. We feel the best
solution is to be up front with our
advertisers and ALSO educate our audience.
The last thing we want is for another
person to lose money to one of these
unscrupulous companies. Please also read
our disclaimer.
How
do I start a home business?
First, research the home business market and
decide what you would be interested in
doing. Take inventory of yourself. What do
you enjoy doing? What are your strengths?
What are your interests? How much time and
money do you have to invest? Do you like
working alone or with people? Take time to
decide what you are good at and what you
want to do. Also decide how much time and
money you have to invest in your home
business. Before you invest ANY money in any
opportunity, research thoroughly by getting
information and several references.
If you are currently working outside the
home, take time to look at your budget.
Where can you cut? Groceries, gas, clothing,
cable, call-waiting, entertainment, eating
out, day care, insurance, car pooling, etc.
You'll be surprised how little you need to
make when you take a close look at your
budget. Take a look at our Work-at-Home
Kit which offers many of the tools
needed for a home-based business including a
career assessment tool to help you decide
what type of business /career would best
suit you. Next, get some home business ideas
& start-up information from books such
as: The Best Home Businesses for the 90s,
Paul & Sarah Edwards; The Stay-At
Home Mom's Guide to Making Money, Liz
Folger; Mompreneurs - Cobe &
Parlapiano. You'll want to research the
market you are interested in to see what
your competition is and how you can compete
(better product/service, price, location,
benefits, etc.) Next, you need to check your
local / county regulations for zoning, tax
permits, licenses and registering your
business name. Try your county clerk's
office. Don't waste your money investing in
a "quick way to make money"
because many opportunities require some sort
of selling and if you know you're not going
to sell then don't waste your time or money.
Some experts say it takes 1 to 3 years
before you will make a profit in a new
business so be prepared and make the
necessary arrangements (work part-time in a
paying position, etc.). Don't let that
discourage you though because some people
defy the odds and make a profit sooner. Just
do what you love and the money will follow.
Of course, you will have to fill a need.

Can you
tell me about the various newsletters and

opportunities or work-at-home jobs.

Can you
tell me more about the national publicity
opportunities with HBWM?
The founder and director of
HBWM.com, Inc. has an Master's degree in
Public Relations, making her quite savvy in
marketing HBWM to the media. We are
featured regularly in national and regional
publications, and we help many of our
members get featured in national and
regional media. For HBWM members, we
regularly get queries from writers, asking
for input on articles they are writing.
HBWM publishes these publicity opportunities
via a members-only listserve, so that HBWM
members can respond to any and all publicity
opportunities that are announced. We
also have quite a good number of HBWM
members who give HBWM credit for exciting
publicity and marketing opportunities such
as the owner of WallNutz.com, who appeared on QVC to sell her products, after
following a request sent to HBWM by QVC
looking for new products to feature. We've
also been contacted by The Oprah Show, Dr.
Phil Show, Today Show and others and each
time members are given the opportunity to
respond and possibly be a part of these
shows and publications. Dr. Laura also has
endorsed HBWM and our Work-At-Home Kit. Her
quote is shown at: www.workathomekit.com.
